Director of Sales/Producer/Executive Producer
Dan looks after the TV licensing and DVD sales side of the business while also occasionally producing.
He has credits on dozens of documentaries, feature films and long form non-fiction and fiction series as producer or Executive Producer.
In 2006, he won a US Emmy for “most outstanding cultural and artistic achievement” for the IDC financed film, “A Lions Trail”. The film was co-produced by Jawitz and Mark Kaplan and was directed by Francois Verster. It has been broadcast on more channels worldwide than any other South African made documentary.
Jawitz also co-produced with Kaplan, the 13 x 26′ television, radio and web based series “African Renaissance” which focused on cultural, political and social progress in 7 African countries.
He is particularly proud of “Glimpse”, a 22 minute experimental non narrative film which he co-directed with Alberto Iannuzzi and produced that received a special award for “originality” at the South African Film and TV Awards (SAFTA’s), and was screened at scores of festivals around the world.
He has served as an advisor on Distribution and Marketing to the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) since 2005 and has been a judge of the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAS) on a number of occasions.
Jawitz was one of the founders of SASFED (The South African Screen Federation) and he currently sits on the IPO board.
