For Trace TV,
Weekly Urban youth/culture series

In partnership with Black Rage Productions, Fireworx Media produces all the magazine and current affairs reports from South Africa for Trace TV. TRACE is distributed via satellite on pay TV platforms in 140 countries, and is currently the leading music/youth channel in Africa.

Thandiswa Mazwai, Lira, Stoned Cheerie, Black Coffee, and Zola are just some of the artists and designers featured on CODE, the hit series devoted to all things urban and youthful, for which Fireworx Media and Black RageProductions produces all the local SA content

TRACE was launched in 2003, following the acquisition and re-branding of MCM Africa by Alliance TRACE Media, holding company of TRACE Group. MCM Africa was at that time the number one music channel in French speaking African countries.

From 2003 to 2009, TRACE has increased dramatically its presence in Africa through various distribution contracts, content and marketing initiatives.

In order to meet market requirements (and differences), TRACE operates 2 different feeds in Africa:

  • One feed dedicated to French speaking African countries

  • One feed dedicated to English speaking African countries and Angola

Through these 2 feeds, TRACE is now available to about 3 million paid subscribers and is watched by over 20 million viewers per week in Africa.

The core African markets of TRACE are South Africa + major Western and Central Africa countries such as Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Cameroon, Congo, Mali, Rwanda, Uganda and Angola.

TRACE is particularly relevant for South Africa since:

  • 15-34 year-old represent 18 million people (38% of the total population)

  • More than 40% of South Africa top CD sales are urban artists such as Fergie from the “Black Eyed Peas” band, Cassie...

  • TRACE broadcasts an exclusive and international music mix that is rich in African influences that is felt throughout South Africa’s musical culture
